The design of filter media via simulation first requires a mathematical
description of the filter material, where material parameters may be controlled. 
Flows and particle depositions are simulated in three-dimensional realizations 
of the media. Based on the simulated filter efficiency and filter life time, the 
material parameters are modified and the computations are repeated, until 
improvements of these two properties are achieved.
